Bleeding Art Tissue .......

Happy Monday ......

And Hello from the very beautiful Bourton-on-the-Water.

The sun isn't shining quite as much as in the picture, but we're still having fun. The cottage is just as we remembered it ..... it's so nice to be back!
As you can see it doesn't take long for the Walmsley family to settle in .... and if it rains .... we just go inside!

We have had some sun and as always, we made the most of it .....

An afternoon by the river ....... watching the world go by, what could be better!

Anyway ..... enough of our Cotswolds shenanigans ..... here's something I didn't get time to blog before we came away.

Thursday last week was the regular craft workshop over in Ballaugh and everyone had fun trying out the Bleeding Art Tissue technique.
Now I've only ever tried this on canvas so it was fun to try it on good old cardstock ...... standard card and watercolour card ..... and these were my results

The card on the left is watercolour card, and I simply arranged some tissue shapes onto my piece of card, brushed over them with water and left them to dry.

They don't take long to dry .... you can use a heat tool to speed things up but in my opinion it's better left to dry naturally.
Once it's dry, remove the tissue shapes and you're left with a fabulous background,  see how the colour has transferred from the tissue onto the card.  You'll never get two backgrounds the same, and depending on how much water you use and the type of cardstock, the results will be different.

I simply stamped over the top using one of my favourite stamps (blush from Penny Black) and a black Versafine ink

And then finished off by adding a touch of acetate smooshing with some Distress ink, a simple sentiment ....

and a touch of glitter glue to the centers of the flowers

This was the same technique on a piece of regular white cardstock

More tissue shapes, brushed over with water .......

I overlapped the tissue shapes this time ..... see how the colours blend into each other ..... pretty or what!

I stamped my favourite Tim Holtz butterfly .... again keeping things simple in the plain black ink, letting the background do the work.

I wasn't too keen on all the white space so I simply took a wet paintbrush and brushed over the top of the colour ..... giving this sort of a colour wash to the background

A couple of sequins and a simple sentiment add the finishing touches

This is such a fun technique to do ...... why not give it a go.

Weekend workshop ....

Happy Tuesday to you ....

Oh well, that's Halloween all done and dusted.  We've got Bonfire Night at the end of the week, and then it's full steam ahead into the festive season!
Batman and Cat Woman were a little worse for wear on Sunday I can tell you!!  No it wasn't hubby and I playing dress up, thank goodness ....  (although there was a time when I would go out dressed in a black leotard with a long tail, fishnet tights and a cat mask, but that's another story!)
It was actually Lauren and her boyfriend who went to a fancy dress party ..... let's just say we didn't see much of either of them until it was time for dinner ...... my Sunday roast can cure any hangover .... apparently!
Then it was off to the cinema to watch the new James Bond movie ...... Spectre 

(a bit of Daniel Craig on a Sunday evening ..... what could possibly be better! oooh errr!)

Enough of that ....... I had a group of ladies round on Saturday for a little craft workshop.  I do enjoy our crafty sessions .... we always have lots of fun, put the world to rights and there's always tea and biscuits.

We were having a play with the Bleeding Art Tissue technique, something I came across on the fabulous Eileen Godwin's Blog, and also stamping onto tissue paper and then applying it to a canvas.

We had loads of fun ...... everyone took inspiration from a canvas I did a while ago for a Craft Stamper DT project ......  check out the original post HERE

And I made one with a Christmas theme ....... surprise, surprise!

Circles of Bleeding Art Tissue paper, in different shades of blue, to create the background ......

Snowflakes stamped onto white tissue paper, then I tore around the edges and added them to the canvas using Slap it On adhesive .... directly onto the canvas, tissue down on the top, then brushed over the top of the tissue with the Slap it On to seal it.
Once this was dry I added some fine crystal glitter to the snowflakes for a touch of sparkle

A touch of Distress Ink around the edges .... and finished off with a cheeky sentiment

Right .... now that's out of the way, time for some inspiration I think.

I love my rubber stamps! and at the moment I'm loving making pieces of home decor.  This started out as as small 6x6 canvas board but as you can see ...... in true Barbara Gray style ...... it's ended up as a 12x12!!!

Sorry about the picture quality ........ bad light!!  The colours look very pastel but actually they're a lot more vibrant in real life.

Anyway ..... I started out by playing around with the 'bleeding art tissue' technique on a blank white canvas board.  I first saw this on the the very talented Eileen Godwin's blog some time ago .....  she's also done a video on YouTube too .... check it out here

It's so easy to do and it's one of those techniques where you'll never get two results exactly the same.
All I did was cut out some shapes from the coloured tissue paper ..... which by the way you can buy from Amazon and ebay etc., and it's not expensive.  I used dies and punches but you can just as easily tear it.
I then placed the tissue shapes onto my canvas and brushed over the top of each one with some clean water..As the water soaks through the tissue you can see the colours transferring to the canvas and they also mix with each other where the tissue overlaps, which is quite cool!

Once all the pieces of tissue were in place and I was happy with the design, I put the canvas to one side and let it dry naturally.

In the meantime,  using a Black Archival ink, I stamped one of my current favourite stamps onto a piece of regular white tissue paper ...... (I say 'current favourite' as this does change quite regularly!!) I do love this butterfly from Tim H's Perspective stamp set .......

I added some colour to the image using Spectrum Noir pencils ..... colouring on the back.

Once the canvas was dry, I carefully removed the tissue shapes and voila!! ...... the background was taking shape!
Using a paint brush, I splattered a little ink over the top to add a bit more interest, using colours to match the butterfly.
When this was dry I pasted the stamped butterfly over the top using a thin coat of Glue and Seal.  I love the translucent effect you get when stamping onto tissue paper, and once it's all dry you can hardly see the edges.  I also added a sentiment to the canvas in the same way

To finish it all off I took some white acrylic paint along with some black gesso, and used an old gift card to add the painted lines around the edges

I decided to hang this on the old craft room wall but, I felt it wasn't big enough .....

So ..... I took a 12x12 canvas, and gave it a coat of black gesso.  Still wasn't 100% happy with it, so ....... out came the brick wall stencil, a little bit of texture paste here and there and another coat of black gesso.  Now I'm happy!

It's been a busy old week here .... hubby's had the week off work and we've got quite a bit of stuff done.  Had the odd day out here and there, a couple of nice meals, coffee with friends you know what sort of thing I mean.  We're off out again tonight ... nothing fancy just a few drinks with his work buddies to round off the week nicely.  Then next week's going to be a big one .... the little man has got his first day at school (noooooo!!)  Both me and his mum will need the tissues that morning I'll bet!
