Weekend's workshop ......

Happy Tuesday ........

We've got a bit of a grey, start this morning.  I was supposed to be meeting a friend for coffee later but we've decided to give it a miss ...... not much fun in the rain!
It means I can spend some time in the old craft room, playing ... ooops! I mean working with, some new designs from Sweet Poppy Stencils.
Watch this space because our Lucy is back on the TV soon with some gorgeous new stencils, maybe a few festive designs in there too.  Great if you want to make a start on all those Christmas cards ..... did I say the 'C' word out loud ..... sorry!!

It also means I have time to share last weekend's workshop with you too.  We had a fab day playing with patterned papers ..... I believe they all went home inspired, grabbed their mountains of papers and made even more cards ...... I love it!!

Once upon a time I always used patterned papers, for backgrounds, matting and layering, fancy folds etc., etc. ..... how times change.  I still buy them occasionally, but they very rarely see the light of day!  Shame really because there's some gorgeous designs.

Anyway, we had fun paper piecing .......

CAS designs using up those scraps of paper that we just can't throw away because we might need them!

It's also a great technique for adding colour to your stamped images .....

EDITED ......
After a little nudge from the lovely Di .... from Pixie's Crafty Workshop (thanks hun), I'm linking this little guy up to the latest Snippets Challenge.  Well it is only snippets of paper used to paper piece him and the balloon.

Back to the cards ......You don't need to paper piece the whole thing ..... just focus on one section of the image

Use the same paper to add a little more detail to your designs .....

A simple strip across the bottom, highlighted with a little gilding flakes makes all the difference.

We used pretty papers to make really simple, yet stunning cards.  Here's the same design using the same paper in two different ways ..... love how these turned out.  The paper is from a 6x6 pad called Roses All Over from My Favourite Things ...... it's gorgeous, some of the ladies loved it too.

I used one of the CUTplorations Stitched Snow Hills dies to cut the curved edge, but it could quite easily be done free hand with scissors

A simple stamped greeting along the edge and you're done.  And if you use clear stamps you can even shape them to follow the curve .......

We used punches with patterned papers to create this pretty floral design ......

I came across this idea on Pinterest a while ago but unfortunately I can't seem to find the blog that it was on originally.  I think it's been closed for a few years ..... Two Peas in a Bucket or something like that I think it was. Anyway, this is my version ......

I used a large circle punch and cut seven circles from various pieces of patterned paper.  Then using the same punch I cut two petals from each circle .......

Simply turn the punch upside down and insert the edge of a paper circle until you see a petal shape. Make two marks where the edge of the paper is and then cut

Turn the paper circle around and cut the same shape again. The two marks will show where the edge of your paper needs to be for all your petals to be the same size .... roughly.  Use different sizes of circle punches to make different sized petals.

Arrange the petals into a flower and add another circle to the centre .....

You can see I finished off with a bit of faux stitching around the edges .....

Last but not least ..... it was a busy workshop ..... we did a little bit of alteration.  Changing the look of some of those less favourite of our papers.

We don't always fall in love with all the papers from a particular collection or paper pad.  There's the odd one that's too dark, or we don't like the colour or the design ..... well, don't throw it away, change it.  Stamp onto it ......

A bit of white embossing with a pretty lacy design works wonders ...... or try a bit of rubber stamping with a dark ink .....

Add a few more elements like a bit of twine, a few drops of liquid pearls here and there

or even a bit more stamping ..... I've added a butterfly that's been stamped on patterned paper and fussy cut and then stamped my greeting on a separate piece of card and attached with foam pads.

Phew! what a lot of pictures.  Well done if you're still with me ...... I think I need a coffee now!

I hope I've given you some ideas on what to do with those gorgeous patterned papers that I know you have in your craft stash..... even the little pieces.  Have fun!

Thanks for popping by .... I hope the weather's a little nicer where you are.  Enjoy the rest of your day.

Cheerio until next time .......

Tag time again ........ Day 5

Happy weekend to you  .......

Only 6 more to go before Christmas ...... Ho! Ho! Ho!

Before I go and get things sorted for today's workshop, I've just got time to share my Tag for DAY 5 of the 12 Tags of Christmas with Loll & Friends event (I would have done it last night but I was out!)

Have you joined in the fun yet?  There's some amazing tags on there ...... today's inspiration from Loll and her Guest Designer are just stunning!!  There's also a Pinterest Board where you can see all the tags .... it looks fab!!

Here's my Tag number 5 .......

Kraft card again ..... white texture paste through the Tim Holtz Speckles stencil creates the snowy background, sprinkled with crystal glitter to give extra sparkle.

The sentiment is made up a Tim Holtz Thinlits Die cut (the merry part) and one of the greetings from the HLS Mixed Christmas sentiments (the Christmas bit!)

I punched the holly leaves from white glitter card and coloured them using a Copic marker .....

attached them to the tag with a bit of dimension, and finished off with a few dots of festive red glitter glue for the berries.

The Christmas Tag box is filling up nicely ...... and seeing as we did a bit more Christmas shopping yesterday I can even make a start on the wrapping!
Not today though ..... busy day ahead.  I've got my ladies coming round for a workshop so, I'd better grab a quick coffee and make a start on the tables.

Thanks for popping by ..... have a fabulous weekend.

Cheerio until next time

Time is running out ....... so it's 3 for 1 today!

Happy Thursday!

And ........ breathe ........... !!

Time for a cuppa I think ..... while I catch my breath and join in the fun with all my favourite blog challenges.

It's been one of those days today ..... busy from the start.
Got hubby off to work ...... did all the usual boring stuff around the house ..... stocked up the fridge for the weekend because I'm not here!  Put the last few bits in my bag for tomorrow ..... everything's in there with a little bit of room to spare ...... result!!!  Some new craft stash may just find it's way in there before the trip home!!  And ...... on top of all that ...... I dropped the little man off at school.
It was his first day yesterday ....... bless him!  Here he is all smart and grown up, in his new uniform ......

Anyway .... after my busy morning I did get treated to a lovely lunch out ........ Hubby took a long lunch break and we went down by the quay and had a delicious meal, and a cheeky glass of bubbly .... just the one mind!  Then it was a quick trip into town to pick up a special birthday present for a certain little someone who is five next weekend (Hmmm .....I wonder who that can be!) Now I've just got to hide the rather large box that it comes in ...... I don't remember Tracy Island being THAT big!!!

OK .... on to the crafty stuff!  Get this ...... one card ..... entering into not one .... not two ..... but .... THREE challenges!!!  Now that doesn't happen very often ...... not in my craft room anyway!

I haven't had a lot of time to play this week and I don't like to miss out on a challenge so I've combined them ..... luckily two had the same theme anyway so it wasn't that difficult .....

First up it's Merry Monday .....  and their theme is .....  to use HOLLY
(love the inspiration picture!)

Here's my card .....

The holly is cut from glitter card using a punch and then the leaves have been coloured using a Copic Marker (I didn't have green glitter card!)

The sentiment is made up from two of the HLS stamp sets ....... the HAPPY is from Bold Birthday Sentiments and the CHRISTMAS is from Mixed Christmas Sentiments.  I love how you can mix and match these ..... great sets of stamps to have in your stash!

I've heat embossed the HAPPY with Gold embossing powder

and then just stamped the Christmas underneath using a green Memento ink

I added a few gold gemstones for the berries and framed the whole thing using a Gold Leafing Pen around the edges ....

There's a little something on the inside too ....

The latest Happy Little Stampers Christmas Challenge is all about HOLLY too .... so I'm joining in the fun over there ..... that's challenge number 2!

And ......last but not least, challenge number 3 is over at Less is More.
It's a Colour challenge this week .... hence the Green and Gold and the CAS design.

Three for one eh! .... not bad!

Thanks for popping by ... enjoy the rest of your day.

Cheerio until next time

Where's my Christmas spirit .......

Happy Sunday folks,

How's your weekend going?
Just a quick post this morning ..... the clock is counting down on the latest Merry Monday Christmas Card Challenge and I don't want to miss it.

This time the challenge is to use Light Green, Dark Green and Red!

Hmmmm ...... nice festive colours, very traditional.  Could I come up with anything ....... NO!!!  My Christmas spirit is no-where to be seen I'm afraid ...... Bah humbug!!
This is as good as it gets this time .........

VERY CAS ...... but I have used all the colours.
The light, and the dark green for my holly leaves ......

I used a punch to cut the leaves from a piece of white cardstock then added coloured card to the backs. A touch of red glitter glue for the berries and a nice festive sentiment stamped with red ink

I did similar on the inside of the card ......

Again, using the punch for my holly leaf ......

Backed with green card and a touch of red sparkle.  Ho! Ho! Ho!

Well ....... we've had a lovely weekend so far ..... doing absolutely nothing!!! And today is going to be more of the same I think. There's no rush to go here there and everywhere in two days because ..... it's the Bank Holiday weekend (whoo hoo!) and ..... hubby's taking all next week off work ..... yeah! No early starts.  You never know ...... I might just get breakfast in bed one morning .... for a change (hint hint).
We're hoping the weather stays nice so we can have a few days out ..... explore a little more of the island maybe ..... see some of the racing in the Manx Grand Prix and just generally recharge our batteries.
We started our little break on Friday evening ....... with good food, nice wine and great company. We went to the french restaurant in Douglas ..... L'Experience and had a beautiful meal. I finally tried escargot for the first time (hubby had ordered them)  I won't be trying them again any time soon I can tell you ....... I've decided ..... I don't like snails!!!!
Hopefully dinner tonight will be nice ..... yes we're off out again.  Tonight we're going to my favourite Italian on the island .... La Mona Lisa up in Laxey.  They've been advertising on Facebook that my favourite dish is back on the menu this weekend ..... Lobster Linguine ..... yummee!!!

Hope they've got some left!!

Thanks for popping by .... enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend.

Oooh .... before I go .... don't forget the lovely Barbara Gray is back on our TV screens with Clarity stamps .... whoo hoo!!  In case you haven't heard ...... Sky channel 663, Freeview 39 and Freesat 822 is the home of the brand new craft channel ....... HOCHANDA (Home of Crafts Hobbies and Arts)
Barbara had a great show yesterday and she's back at 10am this morning (Sunday).  Tune in if you can .... it'll be fun!

Cheerio until next time

Polka Dots and Stripes ......

Morning folks,

Happy Sunday to you ....... I hope you're having a nice weekend.

Happy 'belated' World Card-making Day too!  I had a bit of a busy day yesterday ..... I didn't get chance to even open the craft room door.  Luckily I had been in there on Friday so I have made my Christmas card for this weeks  Merry Monday challenge

It's all about Polka Dots and Stripes this week ......

I used both ......

Very CAS ...... I stamped my sentiment onto a piece of white cardstock (there's my polka dots)

and then used a triangle punch to make the stripey trees.
I added some small pieces of brown card for the tree-trunks then attached them above the sentiment using foam pads. Some fine crystal glitter adds a touch of sparkle, and I finished off with tiny gems on the tops.

I added a mat of red cardstock and some dots of my own ..... doodled around the edge, using a white gel pen

Really quick and easy to do, but very effective.

With only 80 days until Christmas, have you made a start on your cards yet?

I mentioned we had a busy day yesterday.   After the soaking I got on Friday, when the heavens decided to open just as I got into town (what fun that was!) ..... we had a beautiful day here on the island. The sun was back ...... whoo hoo!!
We've had the little man too this weekend (his mummy's across in the UK for a surprise birthday party) and he decided he wanted to go on a tram.  So, after being on the island for nearly 4 years we thought it was time we took our FIRST trip on the Manx Electric Railway.
We've been on the mountain railway before (Laxey - Snaefell), but not on the one from Douglas.

As it was such a nice day, we went all the way up to Ramsey.  When I say 'all the way' I mean about 13/14 miles, maybe a little bit further because we went along the coast.
The little man loved his trip .....  and the scenery on the way up there was beautiful, we could even see across to Cumbria.
I got to visit my favourite shop on the island ..... well I had a few things to get, and it would have been rude not to pop in and say hello now wouldn't it, seeing as how I was up there (my scarf collection got a little bit bigger - again!)
We had to call in the toy shop too, and we even had time for coffee and cake before the last tram home.

I'm afraid the sun's disappeared again this morning ..... but at least it's not raining (yet!)

Thanks for popping by ..... enjoy your Sunday.

Cheerio until next time

It's good to be back!

Hi everyone,
What another glorious day it is here in the Isle of Man.  We still have lovely blue skies however there are a few fluffy white clouds about today.  Hope it's still sunny where you are.
It's so nice to be getting back into the routine of things.  Finally, everything is settling down now after the move, and I'm getting back to normal.
After doing Tim's Tag at the weekend it's got me in the mood to start doing some Blog challenges again.  I've really missed doing these -  3 weeks I've been gone. Have you missed me?!  Well, I'm back!

First up is  ........

It's Week 69 over at Less is More, and it's a 'Recipe' LIM  This is the challenge ......

We have a very simple recipe this week and that is simply to make a card which is
NOT A SQUARE
nor a rectangle for that matter.
What we're really trying to say is that we want a shaped card.
Here's my entry and it's definitely not a square.  It is however a little 'more' that I normally do for this challenge, I hope it's ok.
I must say I tried a few different shapes but I wasn't happy with any of them.  Things just weren't going according to plan this morning.  Then I remembered that I'd seen a card in the Gallery on the Craftwork Cards Website  take a look here  I spotted it some time ago and loved the design, so here's my version.
definitely not a square
I cut the card blank using the largest of my circle Nestabilities.  Take a piece of folded cardstock, not too thick or you won't get a clean cut.  Lay the nestie with one edge just over the fold, so that it won't cut this bit, and put through your die-cutting machine as normal.   You can do this with most of the Nestie shapes and you'll end up with a lovely shaped card blank.  Even better if you have the Grand Nesties and the Grand Calibur machine (I don't unfortunately), because then you can do large shaped cards.  For this one though I like the smaller size, at the tallest point it's just over 41/2  inches - cute or what! It makes a change for me too, as I don't usually do small cards.  It does fit nicely into a 5x5 envelope, so no problem posting it.
I cut a large scalloped circle in deep pink Bazzill cardstock and mat another white cirlce on top, this hopefully gives me enough white space.  I attached this to the front of my card and it hides the straight bit on the fold.  I trimmed a little off the bottom to give a straight edge so that the card would stand up.
The sentiment is from a well used Penny Black clear set, and I did a little bit of faux stitching around the edge, and some white dots on the scallops.
The flowers were cut from scraps of paper I found in my bit box, using 2 different sizes of the EK Success Retro Flower punch.  I love these punches, it's such a pretty, simple flower shape that you can layer up if you want to, or just use the one as I have done.  And the punches will cut through card too - bonus!!  I cut double the amount of flowers and stuck 2 together to make them a little stronger so that I could curl the edges over.  I added a piece of card candi to the centres then attached them to the card with a dot of silicone glue.  You can see I placed some of them over the edge to change the shape of the card a little.  The little leaves are cut with a Martha Stewart punch.
I enjoyed this challenge once everything came together.  I should do more shaped cards I think, they make a nice change.
Thank you for popping by.  I hope to be back again before the weeks out.  I have something that I'm itching to start on.  Here's a sneak peek .........

It's something I found when we were looking around the garden centre at the weekend, it just needs altering a little???  I'll keep you posted.

Bye for now

Back on the Island

Hi everyone,
What a busy week we had last week across in the UK, craft workshops, craft show,  lunches out, shopping, wildlife park and a trip over to Sheffield were just some of things I got up to.  More about all that later.  I will say though we had a really nice time catching up with family and friends, we got to spend quite a bit of time with Lauren and our gorgeous grandson Alex. He's growing up so fast.
This is the first chance I have had to Blog since we got back.  I don't know where this week has gone.   I feel a bit guilty really, my blog's been neglected for the past 2 weeks. Ah well, here goes.  Seeing as I didn't enter the LIM Blog Challenge last week because we were away, I thought I'd get back into Blog posting with this weeks entry.
It's Week 60 and the recipe is 'Take Three Challenges'.   http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.com/   We have to choose 3 past challenge recipes and bring them all together on this weeks card.  I haven't been doing this Blog challenge for that long so I had to take a look at the list of all the past challenges and this is what I came up with.
As usual I ended up doing two cards - different themes though.
Number 1   Just a Note ...

For this card I chose recipes from -  Week 9    A touch of Red
                                                       Week 24  Circles
                                                       Week 46  Music
I suppose I could also include Week 12  Off Centre  in this design.
I stamped the music with black ink using the Hero Arts Music Background stamp and then used Nestabilities dies to cut out the circles.  I then mat these onto slightly bigger circles of SU Cherry Cobbler cardstock and attached them onto my base card.  I finished it off with a small Penny Black sentiment.  As you probably all know Black and white with a touch of colour is one of my favourite ways of designing cards.  It always looks so clean and polished.

Number 2  A little bit of pink

This one took me a little longer to do, and it's got more on than usual for my LIM challenge.
For this card I used   Week 1   Pink, Black & White
                                Week 16  Butterflies/Butterfly
                                Week 43  Bit of bling
I decided to go for a black base card for this one.  I don't normally use dark card for my base, it's nearly always white or cream, it's easier to write inside then.  However if I do, when I decorate the inside I use a white panel and match it to the design on the front,  that then gives me somewhere to write a message.
I always like to decorate the inside to match
The stamp I used on this card is one I have had forever.  I bought this when I was going through my Oriental phase years ago.  The reason it has surfaced again is SU have brought one out very similar in their latest Spring Mini catalogue (Easter Blossoms set) and I was using it last week at Sally-Jo's Creative Cafe.  Check out Sally's blog for inspriation and great ideas  http://stampin-sally.blogspot.com/  My stamp is not exactly the same as the SU one, but it's just as pretty.  The blossoms were coloured using the new Tim Holtz Distress Markers in Spun Sugar, and the centres were highlighted with liquid pearls. I left the branch as is becasue I didn't want to bring in another colour, I felt it would spoil the look of the card.  I inked around the white panel using the same shade of distress ink.
The butterflies were cut with the Martha Stewart Butterfly punch, from colorcore cardstock - not sure what shade though, as it was a scrap from my bit box (hmm .... could have used Week 56  Don't Scrap It).  The bit of bling is small aurora borealis gems down the bodies of the butterflies.  The sentiment is from Penny Black and the ribbons were again bits from my stash.

Although I'm missing everyone in the UK already, it's nice to be home again. Suitcases are emptied, washing is done.  Just need to iron it all now - not happening!!  My craft room is a tip, I've not unpacked all my new goodies yet, or the stuff I took across with me!  I've got loads of ideas of things I want to do craft wise, and loads of new stuff to play with. I'll soon be back in the swing of things and hopefully posting more on here.  I've lots to share with you.

Thanks for popping by.
See you again soon.
