There's a brand new Challenge starting this month ....

Hi folks,

I hinted I'd be back again today (Friday) ..... well actually for some of you reading this, those that have perhaps followed a link from the HLS Blog, today (which is still Friday for me) is now tomorrow (Saturday) for you  ...... confused!?? don't worry, time difference always confuses me too!!!

Anyhow ....... there's a brand new challenge starting today (Saturday) over at Happy Little Stampers. It's a new monthly challenge, starting on the 7th of each month (launching at 6am AEST) and it's all about Mixed Media ....... ooooh! I love a new challenge don't you!

What is mixed media ..... well my understanding is, it's using more than one medium to create your piece of artwork ..... for example paint, ink, paper ....... fabric, texture pastes, stitching, glues ...... buttons, trinkets, ribbons or lace ..... the list goes on.

There will be a theme each month, or a particular technique we'd like you to use etc., and the challenge is not limited to just cards.  Have fun and create anything you like .... altered art pieces, journal pages, scrapbook layouts, tags, home decor ..... the choice is all yours.

This month the theme is ...... all about TAGS!

We thought as the lovely Loll is currently hosting her 12 Tags of Christmas event, AND the current HLS Christmas Challenge is all about Tags why not 'tag' along (sorry!) and join in the fun ..... so it's Tags, Tags and more Tags!

As you all know I love making tags ...... they're a great way to try out new techniques, or play around with new products and you can make them as small or as large as you like.
They're also useful little things to have in your card stash for all those lovely gifts you give throughout the year, and with Christmas coming up we're all going to need a few of these!!

How about some pretty poinsettias ......

I used tissue paper to create my background ...... just covered a piece of white card with glue (I used IndigoBlu's Slap It On ..... but Glue and Seal works, ordinary PVA glue would do the job, whatever you have in your stash really)
I then scrunched up a piece of white tissue paper, and laid it down on top of the glue .....
don't try to smooth out the creases you want those in there, they add nice texture .....

Once this was dry, I trimmed down the tissue, folded over any excess and secured it on the back, and then gave it a coat of white acrylic paint.

While this was drying I stamped (black Versafine ink) and heat embossed (gently .... using a clear powder) two poinsettias and a festive greeting onto another piece of white tissue paper.  I then tore around each of them getting as close as I could to the lines but still leaving a bit of an edge.

I then coloured the flowers on the back side of the tissue using Copic Markers

Once everything was completely dry, I used the Slap It On again ,,,,,, brushed over with the glue where I wanted my flowers to go, laid the tissue on the top then brushed over again with the glue to seal everything down.  I did the same with the greeting too ...... once the glue dries you can hardly see where the tissue paper ends ...

It doesn't really take long to dry ...... if it seems to be taking its time then you may have used too much glue!

To finish off I spritzed over the whole piece using Perfect Pearls to give it all a little shimmer

and added a few drops of glitter glue to the centres of the poinsettias.

A sprinkling of Chunky White Embossing Enamel adds the look of falling snow ..... again you need to be careful heating this ..... work from underneath but be gentle, too much heat could affect your glue.

A little bit of Treasure Gold (White Fire) around the edges gives that vintage worn look.

The piece was then mat and layered onto a black tag and now all I need is a nice gift box for it to go on!

Now it's your turn ....... why not join in the fun.
The challenge is sponsored by the Happy Little Stampers store

and the winner will receive a HLS stamp set

Go on .... give it a go.  Can't wait to see what you create.

I mentioned Loll's 12 Tags Event .....

I'm entering this as my Day 3 Tag .... AND ..... I'm also going to link it up to the HLS Christmas challenge ....

Phew!!  All done.  Thanks for popping by .... enjoy the rest of your day (whether it's Friday or Saturday!)

Cheerio until next time

I love the look the tissue created - appears to be cracked glass with the metallic edging. Adding the stamped images with tissue, now that's ingenious! Yes, the white on white shows no seams. Beautifully done! Great mat too!

Linda, this is one gorgeous tag. So enjoyed reading how you created it so cleverly using the tissue (a technique I've not tried, but shall try soon!). What marvelous texture you've created, and I was amazed to read that you stamped the poinsettia's on the tissue as well. That must have taken lots of concentration to stamp and not tear the delicate paper. Is a marvelous look, with the colors & textures and the glimmer with the pearl spray. Just LOVE it! TFS & Hugs

So beautiful Linda. I love the addition of the black tag to frame everything and give your tag some drama! :) Love the tissue layers ... I didn't know you could colour on tissue, that is so cool. And then adding them to your tag ... then just melt into the background perfectly as if they started there. Love the finishing details with the vintage sponging around the edges and your chunky white falling snow. Great job Linda. Thanks so much for sharing your tag at my Twelve Tags of Christmas event. xx

This is so delightful. You have created a beauty of a tag here.. Loved all the details what it took to get to the end. I remember decorating candles with tissue paper to get all kinds of looks... I love this tag. Great job!
